At a meeting of the Acting Committee held on the 11th day of December 1874 …….. The Dispenser reported that the police had on the 5th instant left the dead body of one Abraham Leitch in the Dead-house after violently forcing open the door thereof. The Secretary was instructed to write to the Sub Inspector requesting an explanation why the corpse was taken there and why violence was resorted to on the occasion. ………. Ipswich Hospital            January 2nd 1866 The Secretary stated that the present meeting had been called in consequence of the sudden death of the Matron, on Saturday evening last. [Matron Raymond died of a fever (typhoid?) nursing patients during a fever epidemic] Resolved that the following Advertisement be inserted in “The Queensland Times” and the “Courier” for three issues each, also twice in the “Mercury” “Wanted immediately an experienced middle aged Lady, as Matron in the above Institution. The Applicant must be single or a widow without family. BENEVOLENT ASYLUM:  On the 1st January, 1864, there were thirteen inmates of the Benevolent Asylum, and between that date and the 31st December, eight were admitted – in all twenty-one. Of these, six were discharged, six died, and nine remain. The number of patients (hospital and benevolent) remaining on 1st January, 1864, 35 males and 3 females; admitted, 247 males and 46 females; discharged, 231 males and 41 females; died, 17 males and 4 females; remaining on 1st January, 1865, 34 males and 4 females.
